A Look Back at the History of Hays Service
Hays Service has provided leading HVAC services and solutions to customers throughout Georgia for decades. Since the beginning, our goal has been to serve building owners and businesses with outstanding dedication to customer loyalty, safety, and productivity.
Since 1945, Hays Service has steadily adapted to the needs of our customers, carving out a niche corner of the HVAC market. While we began serving the heating and plumbing industry, we eventually transitioned into heating and air conditioning and pivoted toward mechanical service and maintenance.
Four Generations of the Hays Family
Hays Service has always been family oriented, having four generations of Hays family members involved in the company’s growth.
Charles G. Hays
Charles G. Hays was a steamfitter in Macon who founded Hays Heating & Plumbing Company in 1945.
Jimmy Hays, Charles’s son, earned his Mechanical Engineering degree from Georgia Tech before joining his father’s business in 1950. When he became the president of Hays Service, Jimmy expanded the company by pivoting toward air conditioning.
Cal Hays, son of Jimmy, also graduated from Georgia Tech and joined the family business in 1977. Cal was the driving force behind Hays Service becoming a Linc Service provider, which gave our team access to innovative tools, research, continued training for technicians, support, and resources from an international network of HVAC experts.
Calvin Hays, Cal’s son, joined the company in 2009 as general manager, the position he maintains today. Under Calvin’s leadership, Hays Service continues expanding and developing new strategies that improve our capabilities and solutions for customers.
Jimmy Hays, Chairman Emeritus
In 1950, Jimmy Hays joined his father, Charles G. Hays, after graduating from Georgia Tech with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. At that time, the family business was still Hays Heating and Plumbing Company. Jimmy eventually became president and expanded the business into air conditioning, the foundation for where Hays Service is today. Jimmy ran the business for over 40 years and saw his son and grandson join Hays Service as the company continued to expand.
Becoming a PremiStar Company
Throughout the 2010s, Hays Service experienced significant company growth. We increased our customer base, team, and operations and needed a winning solution to keep up with momentum while maintaining our high level of customer service.
In 2021, we took advantage of the opportunity to serve our customers better by becoming a PremiStar company. PremiStar is a nationwide network of commercial and industrial HVAC experts that gives Hays Service employees and customers more benefits than before. We can now offer more resources, capabilities, and savings solutions to businesses that choose Hays.
