When I think about September and the Labor Day holiday, I start thinking about school starting up again. That’s when it always started when I was a kid, anyway, not in the dog days of August when it’s still so hot. In those days, most schools were not air conditioned. We were expected to handle a few hot days in September and October. But enough about my nostalgia for the 60s!
While we’re on the subject of school, let’s talk about training. I see so many service companies that fail to properly train their employees. At Hays, we learned very quickly that an untrained employee can cost our customers (and us) a lot of money – not to mention the downtime or the unhealthy impacts to facilities that can arise from poor technician training.
So, over the next few months, our team will be hitting the road to go back to school all across the country. Whether it’s a school on chillers in Wisconsin or a control systems class in Florida, we go where we must in order to find the best training to help us stay ahead of a the steep learning curves of advanced technologies.
As your service provider about their commitment to training. How much of their budget goes to educating their employees, especially about safety issues?
Our commitment to safety is unequaled among similar service providers. Our team receives weekly in-house safety trainings along with an annual in-depth session with an outside safety expert. We perform internal and contract external safety audits throughout the year. PermiStar and Hays Service remain dedicated to making our companies the safest in the industry.
Yes, going “back to school” as an adult can be demanding, but we cannot be stingy when it comes to the training budget. At Hays, we want our guys getting straight As when it comes to helping our customers.
Thanks again for your loyalty and trust in us as we care for one of your largest building assets.
